  • Day 1: Lima, Peru
Upon arrival in Lima, the capital city of Peru, transfer directly to the hotel for leisure or rest.
  • Day 2: Lima
Today you will enjoy a full day Lima city tour. The tour will take you to visit the colonial and modern sections of this so-called “City of Kings”. Colonial sites include the lovely Plaza de Armas with its cathedral and palace, the exquisite Torre Tagle Palace, modern day seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The San Francisco Monastery and catacombs. In modern Lima, drive through the exclusive residential areas of Miraflores and San Isidro. As Lima has a history of being home to Chinese immigrants over the years, today you will enjoy a Peruvian-Chinese lunch during the tour. We will then pay a visit to the “Park of Love” to see the statue “El Beso” as well as to appreciate the views of the Pacific Ocean. Then, it’s on to visit the Bohemian neighborhood of Barranco. There will also be some time to visit a local handicrafts market before returning to the hotel. (B, L)
  • Day 3: Lima ~ Cuzco
Today you will head to the airport for the brief flight to Cusco (FLIGHT NOT INCLUDED), nestled high in the Andes Mountains. Check in at the hotel, take it slow and enjoy a bit of leisure time to get your body accustomed to the mountain altitude. This evening, transfer to dinner at Tunupa Restaurant to enjoy a delicious Peruvian dinner accompanied by performances of live Andean folk music and dance. (B, D)
  • Day 4: Cuzco ~ Sacred Valley
Today, start with a drive through the scenic Sacred Valley of the Incas to the village of Ollantaytambo for a visit to an impressive Inca fortress. Then stop by the village of Pisac to visit the local marketplace where the native people sell a variety of handicrafts. Then, proceed to your hotel located in the Sacred Valley region. (B, D)
  • Day 5: Sacred Valley ~ Machu Picchu ~ Cuzco
Today you will set out on an excursion to Machu Picchu, “The Lost City of the Incas.” Wake up early and take a wonderful train ride through the Sacred Valley of Urubamba to Machu Picchu. Perched at 8,200 feet above the valley, it was hidden by mountains and semitropical jungles for 400 years until discovered by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Incan “Virgins of the Sun” took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here at Machu Picchu. Enjoy a tour of the site followed by time for leisure or shopping at the crafts market nearby in the town of Aguas Calientes. Then, journey back to Cusco for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
  • Day 6: Cuzco ~ Lima
This morning we set out for a guided tour of the ancient capital of the Inca Empire―Cusco, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the western hemisphere. The tour visits important landmarks such us Cusco’s Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and Koricancha “The Temple of the Sun”. Take in a delightful combination of Inca and colonial architecture. We will also visit Sacsayhuaman fortress just a few minutes outside Cusco. The fortress is an imposing example of Inca military architecture. It was built using colossal limestone blocks arranged in a variety of interlocking shapes. The estimated weight of some stones is over 120 tons. Visitors are still wondering how it was constructed way back in pre-Colombian times. Following our sightseeing, we will head to the airport for the flight back to Lima (FLIGHT NOT INCLUDED). (B, L)
