What started out as a festival in 1998 to promote Boryeong mud cosmetics is now one of the hottest annual festivals in South Korea. If Spain has their tomato festival, Korea has its annual Boryeong Mud Festival.
The festival brings mud from Boryeong mud flats, containing natural properties beneficial to your skin, to Daechun beach. The festival hosts giant races, obstacle courses, games, exhibitions and events, all involving Boryeong mud.
With the growth of the event, the festival even hosts large-scale shows and concerts for attendees. This year’s line-up includes international YouTube-sensation Psy, and I.U., one of Korea’s top K-Pop stars.

Valley Rock Music and Arts Festival | July 28 – 30

The Valley Rock Music and Arts Festival only started in 2009 but has quickly become one of South Korea’s biggest music festivals. The festival may sound like it is only for rock lovers, but the stages bring together bands and acts from many different genres including EDM, R&B and folk.
The festival previously had international acts like Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Zedd, Skrillex, Muse, The Cure and more. This year’s line-up not only includes top-Korean acts but also international artists such as Gallant, Lukas Graham, Major Lazer, Lorde, Diplo and Sigur Ros.
Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival | August 11 – 13
The Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival is another huge summer music festival that brings together a huge crowd and major performers. The festival mainly focuses on rock and electronic musicians
Many international artists such as Steelheart, Scorpions, Black Eyed Peas, Fall Out Boy and Travis have all performed in the festival. This year the festival will bring Justice, 5 Seconds of Summer, Dua Lipa, Bastille, Zion T. and many more to create hottest stages of summer.
Hangang Festival | July 21 – August 20
The Hangang Festival (Hangang Mong Ttang Festival) is a month-long summer festival in Seoul. The entire festival takes place near the Han river, one of Korea’s longest rivers.
The festival contains more than 80 programs including games, camping, water leisure activities, concerts, movies, night markets and many more. Public transportation is recommended due to the large-scale of the festival.
Within the month, there is no end to the amount of fun you can have whether you are watching a film, dancing to live music, eating delicious food or participating in competitions.
