With Japan’s love of culture and arts, it is no wonder that Japan has the world’s second biggest music market. As one the world’s leaders in music, Japan has some of the best festivals during summer. The festivals not only include the nation’s top acts but international artists as well. The U.S. might have Coachella but Japan does not fall short in its music festivals either. You are going to have to prepare your trip as soon as you learn about the hottest Japan music festivals.

Fuji Rock

Fuji Rock takes place annually on the last weekend of July in the Naeba Ski Resort. The festival features more than a hundred artists over three days. This year the festival is being held from July 28 to July 30.

The event has previously featured artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Oasis. This year’s lineup features the Gorillaz, Aphex Twins, Catfish and Bottlemen, Queens of the Stone Age and Bjork.

Although there are many rock bands and British bands, the event is not just for rock-lovers. The event features R&B artists like Gallant and folk artists such as Father John Misty.

Travelers can take the Joetsu Shinkansen (high-speed railway) from the JR Tokyo Station to the Echigo Yuzawa Station then take a bus or taxi to the resort.

Summer Sonic

Summer Sonic is another huge festival that takes place in near Tokyo and Osaka at the same time. The artists that perform in Osaka perform one day and switch with the artists that performed near Tokyo the next day.

The festival features a balanced mix of artists from different genres. The festival previously featured international acts such as Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Metallica, Linkin Park, Guns N’ Roses and many more.

This year’s festival is taking place on August 19 to 20. Current lineup includes international artists such as Calvin Harris, Black Eyed Peas, Kesha, 5 Seconds of Summer, Foo Fighters and Sum 41. Furthermore, prepare to laugh and dance as Pikotaro, the artist of the viral “Pen Pineapple Apple Pen”, is also scheduled to perform in the festival.
